Almost Famous

Last night, I had the honor of being a part of a musical event that included a number of artists. I was back stage before playing, and a major recording artist was back there as well chatting it up with all of the musicians. One of the artists played her song, came backstage, and was congratulated by everyone. The major recording artist asked this particular artist to email him to work out a potential tour together for the near future.

That’s how it happens. I talk to different musicians asking what they need to do to make it to the next level. I always say they need to be out there playing. There is a time and a place for social media, for emailing fans, and for practicing. But, aside from the creative process of writing songs, an artist must be out there playing and meeting people. This girl played a song with all of her heart. It was visible to all. Including the recording artist. It would have taken this same girl decades to try to go through the recording label to contact this artist for him to hear her to offer her a spot as an opener on an upcoming tour.

To the artists out there. It’s not as hard as it seems from the beginning. Be out there. Meet people. Play everywhere you can. And give your heart each night.

Stay tuned,
Erik
