This will be a unprecedented chance for a number of African artists to have a global platform to promote their music. Both African and International artists will take part in the event. In addition to television broadcast, the award ceremony will be available for viewing on a number of different platforms including online, mobile, and radio.

Most of this technological capability will come in the form of MTV’s partnership with Kuwait-based Zain company. Zain is a telecommunications company (apparently the 4th largest in the world) with a far reach into the African continent. MTV and Zain have signed a 3 year deal.

The award ceremony will include a number of different styles of music. I need to do some research on some of these styles as they are completely new to me: hip-hop, hip life, R&B, rock, Afro Pop, Afro Beat, kwaito, bongo flava, dancehall, soul, rock and funk.
