I was very interested to read what Jerry had to say about the potential game-changing aspects of the upcoming Apple Tablet. Could it really take out Blockbuster and Netflix? And can Warner and other companies really be helping this trend along? It will be fascinating to watch.

Pearl Jam will roll this out for their upcoming Australian tour. They will offer the following two option in addition to the price of the ticket:

$15 Australian ($12.36) – New album with one live bonus track.

$31 Australian ($25.54) – New album, live track, albums from tour openers (Ben Harper, Relentless 7, and Liam Finn).

It will be interesting to see how many albums Pearl Jam can sell. It is a smart move to offer auxiliary products at the point of sale.

But this was to be a gift for my father, and he prefers cd’s.

But to my surprise, the new Mayer cd was unavailable at Target. In fact, they did not have any John Mayer cd’s. When I inquired, they said that this particular cd had been discontinued from Target (although it is available at Target.com).

To date, Mayer’s live cd has sold 258,359 copies. That’s a sizable number and Target just doesn’t even carry it. I ended up purchasing the cd at Wal*Mart, and even they only had one copy.

This is the first physical cd I’ve purchased in a while, so I guess it came as a surprise that retail store space dedicated to cd’s has decreased so rapidly and that they wouldn’t have a relatively popular album available for sale.

I’ve never connected Target with grunge, but hey, the music scene is changing. Bands are searching for new revenue streams.

This will be Pearl Jam’s first album that will not be on their Sony-affiliated label. This album will not have a label, but will include a number of partners, with Target being one of those partners.

Pearl Jam, one of the top Seattle grunge bands from the 90′s will release their album at Target, some smaller record stores, and on their website.

I think it will be interesting to see how this album sells at Target. Recently, bands such as the Eagles and AC|DC have released albums at big box retailers, and these albums have sold relatively well. Pearl Jam seems to be one of the first bands to do an exclusive release that was from the 90′s. Most Pearl Jam listeners have made the transition from physical to digital. Will Pearl Jam fans flock to Target to buy this album? Not likely. We’ll see.

Stay tuned,
Erik
erikrostad.com
Follow me on Twitter
