As I’ve written in the past, 1980′s & 90′s Rock n Roll bands from the USA have a huge fan base in Peru. Many of these bands have gone to Peru in recent years (Metallica, Collective Soul, Duran Duran) and have sold out stadiums. There is a loyal fan base that will pay a good portion of their monthly salary to buy a ticket. As a USA Rock n Roll band, you cannot ignore this fan base.

Guns n Roses is the latest band to make their way down to Lima, Peru. They will perform in the South American country on March 25 at the Monumental Stadium Esplanade.

Stay tuned,
For a while, it seemed that the album release had about as much of a chance of being released as the Communist government of China allowing a vote to take place for their next leader. Well, the cd goes on sale at Best Buy on Sunday, November 23rd. This was really great for Best Buy, that is until MySpace Music began streaming the cd in full on Thursday of this week.

As of today, Friday morning the 21st, the first song of the new album had been streamed almost 800,000 times in the time period of just over 24 hours. Not bad. So, the question now is how many people will turn out to purchase the physical cd.

The answer to that question will shed light on a few trends. For instance, will older bands such as Guns ‘n’ Roses continue to sell physical albums to their older listening base? Take the recent success of AC/DC at Wal*Mart. Also at stake, especially in this economy, is if people will want to have ownership of the songs as opposed to only having the ability to stream the songs whenever they want.

It is pretty neat to be able to stream this album after the 10 year wait, and before it can be purchased in the store. My how things have changed since Guns ‘n’ Roses was releasing tapes.

Stay tuned,
Erik
erikrostad.com

The highly anticipated, ten years in the making album will be sold exclusively through Best Buy retail outlets. No word yet if the album will also appear on iTunes or AmazonMP3.

Guns N’ Roses is now managed by Front Line Management which is headed by Irving Azoff. Azoff is well known for his work in selling albums exclusively to specific retailers. He was behind the Eagle’s latest exclusive release to Wal*Mart, “Long Road Out of Eden.” The album went on to sell 3.1 million copies in the USA.

It will be fun to watch the response to this album. There are a ton of GnR fans out there. But times have changed. Will the 10 years wait time create the necessary anticipation or the dreaded disgust for this album? We shall see.
