Chinese Authoritarianism

This is not a big shocker, but the Chinese Government is not too thrilled about the recent Guns ‘n’ Roses album titled Chinese Democracy. The communist government has harshly attacked both the title and content of the album through the state-run newspaper, the Global Times. Talk of a vast conspiracy were echoed in the newspaper as internet users were quoted in the article as saying the West was trying to “grasp and control the world using democracy as a pawn.”

Well, if Axl Rose is leading a political crusade against China, then we are all in some serious trouble. The Chinese government is disgusted by the album which contains references to the Falun Gong, a religious group China regularly squashes, as well as comments about the authoritarian aspects of the country.

In a previous blog, I wrote about China’s attempt to regulate what bands are heard and allowed to tour in China. I have a strong hunch that Axl Rose will not be doing a Chinese tour any time soon.

Stay tuned,
Erik
