EMI Income
EMI has just announced some better financials for fiscal year ending March ’09. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, & amortization) were up an astonishing 219% from the year before. EBITDA was $246 million. This compares rather favorably to the prior year’s numbers of $77 million.
A few facts within this increase is that a lot of it was brought about by cost cutting. That may be helpful for the time being, but is not exactly a great growth strategy. However, it does seem that EMI is changing their business structure around. Last year (’07-08), non-physical sales (non-cd sales) were 35% of total revenue. This past year, they were down to just 20%. Additionally, EMI’s USA market share was up 1.5% from the year before. They were fortunate to have Coldplay’s album in their hands this year.
Stay tuned,
Erik
