Jay-Z & the Norwegians
Jay-Z is joining forces with Stargate, the Norwegian songwriting/production duo that is behind some of the current top 40 hits. Stargate has worked on Ne-Yo’s “Closer” and Rihanna’s “Take a Bow.”
This new global partnership will be called StarRoc (Stargate & Rocafella) and will include a record label and publishing company under Jay-Z’s venture with Live Nation, which is called Roc Nation. They are good with names in these ventures.
In the words of the principals involved, “the focus is to find new talent and develop
artists through mutually beneficial global partnerships which include music distribution, publishing, touring and merchandising.”
This is a very interesting deal. First of all, it combines global connections and incorporates Jay-Z’s current deal with Live Nation. So Live Nation gets to know about artist collaborations while they are happening in the studio and can begin planning tours around that. Jay-Z begins establishing more of a global presence on the business side of the industry. And Stargate formally signs a deal with one of the greatest rap legends alive.
I think this is the type of record label we will see in the future. One that is focused, global, and has connections to touring companies, not to mention connections to the top artists.
Stay tuned,
Erik
