Milian MySpace
MySpace Records has just signed Christina Milian to a new deal. Milian had currently been with Def Jam, who unceremoniously dropped her before her 3rd album was to release due to slow sales potential. MySpace Records is a record label that started in 2006 within MySpace. I would guess that with the advent of the upgraded MySpace Music, flush with corporate sponsorship, that the label will grow to include new artists in the very near future.
Remember, we need to follow the money. The artists will go to the money. We’ve seen the exodus of some of the music industry’s top players from the record labels to the concert promoter, Live Nation. MySpace Records offers a tasty alternative for smaller artists who sense the demise of the record. In addition to the obvious benefits of being associated with a site known for music discovery, read what Christina Milian also had to say about MySpace Records:
“Before, I had a label telling me what direction to go in. Now, it’s my choice, so I’m being very particular about it and I’m really excited. …and MySpace is allowing me to do tons of different things creatively.”
If an artist can leave a record label and go with a company that will facilitate more exposure in the ways that people hear about new music these days, while also creating an atmosphere where the artists has creative freedom, they will begin to attract a number of artists.
Stay tuned,
Erik

Myspace Music looks great, however, right now I’m using http://www.deezer.com/en and it’s AWESOME! A huge catalogue, a great interface, and quite good focuses on emerging artists! Great!
