My Record Label is National Geographic?

As the music industry travels through unprecedented waters, new opportunities are being opened up to companies that would not be expected to join the industry. The latest example is the recent news that National Geographic has just launched a music label, Nat Geo Music. They already exist as a music division, but will now promote and release music from all around the world.

Nat Geo’s music library already consists of 16,000 tunes. The Kobalt Music Group will be brought on to provide publishing work for the library and will represent Nat Geo’s music around the world.

This is a great brand tie-in and it makes a lot of sense. Nat Geo Music will outsource its distribution through the following companies per location:

- INGrooves – USA
- Shock Records – Australia & New Zealand
- ADA Global – Europe, Japan, Middle East
- Napadogan Music – Canada

I will keep an eye on the progress of Nat Geo Music.

Stay tuned,
Erik
