New Spanish Label

It is fun to follow the money in the music industry. As companies rise and fall, we obtain a nice glimpse into what is actually happening and where the money is going. So record labels who continued to hope in record sales are seeing sales plummet. Now we see artists sign enormous deals with Live Nation as more money is being made now on touring and other side ventures.

Other avenues where bands are looking to make money are in commercials, tv shows and movie spots. With that in mind, a new music label is being launched in Spain by the huge media conglomerate Grupo Zeta. The new music label will be called El Volcan Musica and is being described as a 360-degree music company.

One of the great things about this new music label is that it has an immediate connection with the TV side of Grupo Zeta. This will make it very easy for the label to insert songs into TV shows. And what a great value proposition to a band looking for a label. El Volcan already has a huge advantage over other record labels in that they have ready access to lucrative song placements in tv shows. Zeta’s plans are to “choose the artists, commission songs, and compile the soundtracks in the same way this is happening in America.”

In the words of president and founder of Nacional Record label, “There is a great wave of alternative Latin music coming out of the [United States], Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Argentina. I look forward to seeing more doors open in Spain for these amazing artists, thanks to El Volcan.”

Zeta’s president describes the company’s priorities at this point, “My first priority is building up a quality catalog of Spanish artists,” says Linan. “But I also want to foment more interest in Latin alternative music, which at the moment in Spain is very much in the shadow of Anglo-Saxon product.”

Great brand extension by Grupo Zeta.

Stay tuned,
Erik
