Here is a potentially game-changing technology. A company called Auditude has developed a patented technology that indexes videos across the web and finds the ones that are copyright-infringing. It then places an advertisement on the advertisement so that the content provider and owner can actually make money when someone uses their material without permission.

Think about that. In the past, MySpace or YouTube would send a kind announcement to you saying, please remove or we will hunt you down. Or they would just remove it for you. Now, there is no need to do so. This technology will find the videos and create a way for the people that usually would be mad, to have a way to make money. Brilliant!

So, MySpace and MTV are set to test this technology in the very near future. Jeff Berman, president of sales & marketing at MySpace had this to say:

“This is a game-changer. We’re going from a world of no to a world of yes while protecting the rights of the copyright holder.”

The actual ad will be what is called an “attribution overlay,” which will be a semi-transparent strip at the bottom of the video.

Stay tuned,
Erik
