RIAA Victory?
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) just won a $1.92 million lawsuit against the file sharer Jammie Thomas-Rasset. $1.92 million dollars.
Way to go RIAA. Unfortunately, this threat will stop very few people from sharing files. In fact, it’s likely they will only stop if sued themselves. The threat is just not that real unless it is closer to home.
So, the RIAA wins $1.92 million dollars against one defendant. Now, they need to go pay all the labels. What is that really going to break down to after lawyers fees and other costs? Is it worth the bad publicity to make back a relatively small amount of money?
What if the RIAA spent their resources in discovering how they could better monetize recordings or how to get into new revenue streams instead of suing their clients?
Stay tuned,
